Vaginal Rejuvenation Procedures
Reviewed by Steven M. Gitt, MD, FACS
Vaginal rejuvenation procedures are gaining in popularity, and the latest statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) suggest that they are here to stay. There are many different types of surgeries that fall into the category of ”vaginal rejuvenation,” as well as a growing array of minimally invasive energy-based treatments that offer viable alternatives to surgery.
The highly-sought-after G-spot or Gräfenberg spot is purported to be a very erogenous zone inside the vagina that enlarges when directly stimulated. G-spot amplification is a procedure that involves injecting collagen directly into the G-spot to enhance sexual pleasure.
The results last for about four months, on average. Most women require a repeat injection every three months to maintain the effect. Newer fillers may increase treatment effect duration as long as two years.
The cost of G-spot amplification is about $1,850.
Choosing the Right Surgeon
It is important to choose a surgeon who has extensive experience performing the procedure you are considering.
Often referred to as designer vagina treatment, “vontouring” and a host of other campy terms, these procedures are much more than cosmetic in scope. There are now effective — and relatively simple — office-based treatment options to reliably correct vaginal dryness, stress urinary incontinence, and sexual dysfunction!
Here is a snapshot of some of the more common surgical and non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation procedures:
Energy-based Vaginal Rejuvenation
Several devices now on the market (with more on the way) use fractionated CO2 laser energy or advanced, next-generation radiofrequency energy to tighten and tone the genital area — with no downtime. A series of treatments are needed to achieve desired results. Some doctors pair these treatments with a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection, known as the “O-Shot,” to improve the results.
The cost varies based on the specific procedure.
Hoodectomy
This vaginal rejuvenation procedure aims to reduce the size of the clitoral hood to maintain symmetry. Hoodectomy may be done in tandem with labiaplasty, especially if there is a significant or complete reduction of the inner lips (labia minora). The reduction or removal of the clitoral hood may increase the stimulation of the clitoris and intensify sexual pleasure.
A hoodectomy takes an hour or less to complete, with recovery spanning about two weeks. Risks may include inflammation and infection. Newer, energy-based treatments are being developed and the early results are impressive, with recovery time dramatically reduced.
The cost of a hoodectomy or energy-based hoodectomy is about $2,500.
Vaginal Tightening
To address stretching that may result from natural childbirth, some women may want their vaginal canal and the surrounding tissues tightened. Your surgeon will tighten and shorten the stretched muscle at the back of the vagina and remove the unwanted skin.
This reduces the excess vaginal lining and tightens the vaginal muscles. Vaginal tightening surgery takes around an hour, but some women may need to stay in the hospital overnight. Typically the procedure requires general anesthesia or a local anesthetic combined with sedation. The scarring is inside the vagina.
You will be sore and swollen after vaginal tightening surgery, but should be able to walk without discomfort within a few days. Most women can return to work within a week. You should avoid sex for four to six weeks after vaginal tightening. If your vagina is over-tightened, it can lead to urine retention.
The cost of vaginal tightening is roughly $5,900. Anesthesia and surgical facility fees can add another $4,000 to $5,000.
Revirginization
In recent years, many women have undergone a vaginal rejuvenation procedure called revirginization, also known as hymen repair surgery or hymenoplasty. During this fairly simple procedure, your surgeon uses dissolvable stitches to reconnect the skin membrane that once partially covered the opening to the vagina (the hymen).
Typically revirginization involves a local anesthetic and no hospital stay. Recovery time is about six weeks. The risks of hymen repair surgery may include infection, fever and pain during sex. In addition, intercourse will re-tear the membrane, causing pain and bleeding as if you were…like a virgin.
The cost of revirginization is about $3,000.
Augmentation Labiaplasty
Augmentation labiaplasty is a vaginal rejuvenation procedure that involves taking fat from other areas of the body and reinjecting it into the labia majora (the outer lips) for a more youthful appearance. Risks of augmentation labiaplasty includeunder- or overcorrection, infection and failure of the fat to take hold.
The cost of augmentation labiaplasty can be anywhere from $3,500 to $8,000.
Vulvar Lipoplasty
Vulvar lipoplasty can remove unwanted fat from the pubic mound (mons pubis) and upper parts of the labia majora. Liposculpturing may alleviate unsightly fatty bulges in this area and produce a more aesthetically pleasing curve. This is performed with a fine liposuction cannula. Risks include over-suction, under-suction and infection.
The cost of vulvar lipoplasty ranges from $3,800 to $6,000.
G-Spot Amplification
The highly-sought-after G-spot or Gräfenberg spot is purported to be a very erogenous zone inside the vagina that enlarges when directly stimulated. G-spot amplification is a procedure that involves injecting collagen directly into the G-spot to enhance sexual pleasure.
The results last for about four months, on average. Most women require a repeat injection every three months to maintain the effect. Newer fillers may increase treatment effect duration as long as two years.
The cost of G-spot amplification is about $1,850.

The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has come out against cosmetic surgery of the vagina, stating that the risks outweigh the benefits. They have no specific policy on non-invasive procedures at this time.
